ONE OF THE EIGHT INDIAN CLASSICAL DANCE FORMS OF INDIA.
Kathak is one of the major Indian classical dance forms. Similar to other popular classical dance forms, this is also a storytelling dance. Kathak is like a poetry combined with rhythmic movements to assist in the worship of deities.
However, the stories did not stay within the temple walls for too long. Nomadic Kathaks(wandering kathak storytellers) soon began taking the dances throughout the country. They added emotional facial expressions to their performances which further developed the dance to include elements of mime. Mime is a form of acting. This lead to kathak being transitioned from its secluded, devotional origins to a more accessible , multi disciplined, and entertainment dance.
